The Big Idea

Biblical freedom is not merely the absence of restraint. It is the freedom to obey God by speaking life, engaging people peacefully, and worshiping Jesus.

Remember Sunday’s message

Sermon reminders

01

Use Freedom to Speak Life

An angel freed the apostles and sent them straight back to the temple to speak “all the words of this life.” Conrad connected freedom of speech to a heart that speaks openly about Jesus rather than being dominated by lesser concerns.

02

Use Freedom to Engage Peacefully

The apostles taught publicly, went with the officers without force, and answered the council with the gospel. Conrad emphasized that obedience to God and peaceful, respectful engagement belong together.

03

Use Freedom to Worship Jesus

Gamaliel’s counsel exposed the difference between merely human movements and God’s work. The apostles accepted suffering, rejoiced, and continued proclaiming that Jesus is the Christ.

Wednesday’s conversation

Reflect & discuss

Read Acts 5:17-42 together and pray. Notice how the apostles respond when religious authorities restrict them, and how their freedom in Christ shapes both their message and their manner.

1

Acts 5:17-21; 1 Peter 2:16

Freedom under restraint

The apostles were physically imprisoned, yet the sermon presents them as people who lived in freedom. What does biblical freedom make possible even when our circumstances, fears, or other people place real limits on us?

2

Acts 5:20; Luke 6:45

Speak words of life

Conrad connected our speech to what fills our hearts. What tends to dominate our everyday conversations, and what would it look like to speak about Jesus more naturally and honestly in the relationships already entrusted to us?

3

Acts 5:25-32; James 3:17-18

Obey with a peaceful posture

The apostles would not stop obeying God, but they did not meet opposition with force or contempt. Where do you find it hardest to hold conviction and peace together, and what might faithful engagement look like there?

4

Acts 5:33-42

Let worship direct your freedom

The apostles left the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for Jesus’ name. What do our patterns of attention, loyalty, and sacrifice reveal about what we worship, and how can worshiping Jesus reshape how we use our freedom?

Carry it into the week

Next Steps

From the sermon

  • This week, read Acts 5:17-42 and consider how you are using the freedom God has given you.
  • Identify one relationship or setting where you can speak words of life, engage with peace, or make your worship of Jesus more visible.

Application

Choose one real conversation or setting in your circle of influence this week. Before it happens, pray for courage to speak truthfully about Jesus and for a posture marked by peace, humility, and listening.
